Business Resources

Sustainable businesses offer products and services that fulfill society's needs while contributing to the well-being of all earth's inhabitants. Sustainable businesses operate across all business sectors: energy efficiency and renewable energy generation, water and wastewater treatment, resource-efficient industrial processes, advanced materials, transportation and agriculture. They create products and services that compete on price and performance while significantly reducing humankind's impact on the environment.

Sustainable technologies --also called cleantech or greentech today--improve financial performance because products are made using less energy and materials, and less waste and toxics. These companies tend to attract experienced, visionary management and top employees. They also attract leading suppliers and customers who want to work with and buy from companies that contribute to their own green business strategies.

Focus on Energy Business programs can help your business by: Showing you practical ways to implement energy strategies; rewarding your business with financial incentives for these strategies; suggesting energy tips that are no-cost or low-cost; and offering training opportunities on energy efficiency

Green Tier: Green Tier is based on a collaborative system of charters and contracts prepared jointly by participating businesses and the DNR. These contracts and charters in many cases streamline environmental requirements and encourage new environmental technologies. Green Tier is designed to help environmentally responsible companies achieve both environmental and economic gains.

USGBC: The U.S. Green Building Council is a non-profit community of leaders working to make green buildings available to everyone within a generation. They oversee and certify buildings using the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system.

DSIRE is a Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency. The DSIRE website provides information about incentives for renewable energy and energy efficiency measures.
